My beaver lino block print is hand printed on delicate, translucent, handmade Japanese paper with a deckle edge. This is a North American beaver (Castor canadensis), symbol of Canada.

April 7 is International Beaver Day. While a species of “least concern” according to the IUCN Red List of mammals, numbers of North American beavers have been literally decimated since colonization. 🧵1/

Beavers play such an extremely important role in ecosystems; dams restore wetlands with biodiversity comparable to tropical rainforest, cleanse water, help regulate climate and moderate flow of streams and rivers. Past over hunting beaver has had a radical negative impact but conversely present reintroduction efforts can rapidly and effectively restore wetlands. 🧵2/2
