Heh. Emoji are a fad. This stuff will last as long as mankind does:
巨大的危险。核辐射

@tuban_muzuru can one create a block of 汉字 which substantially communicates the various ideas in the Sandia report warning message but limits itself to characters intelligible to Japanese readers

That's insightful of you to note. These are just a sorta-Chinese-ification by me, thinking out thousands of years, not using any kana, but yeah in Japan by all means.

I think this would run into the problem with some of the cartoon nuclear waste warning messages:
What happens if someone reads the emoji backwards?
Since there is not necessarily an obvious direction - although maybe the arrow emoji would break the ambiguity.

@michael_w_busch @futurebird The best response I've yet got to this question was on bluesky and it solved this specific issue in a clever way https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:aftgnoj446o44oj2vpxey2yg/post/3meajupb6ck2a

@mcc Are you asking because it's the only way to accurately communicate with the kind of people who will visit the usurper's presidential museum?

What better way to keep people away than elicit disgust? Evoking imagery of fecal waste, harbingers of disease and rot, skeletons, and all things nasty might make for a compelling argument to stay away.
Of course, that is if you're not a follower of Nurgle.

People don't even agree on the meaning of emoji now.Classic example, the happy chocolate ice cream emoji.

@mcc Emoji read by which OS/browser/platform/etc? We don’t have standardized emoji, so we can’t even reliably communicate the danger now, let alone long term.

@mcc my favorite answer to the "how-to-mark-for-the-future" problem is to just not
don't make it special, don't make it noticeable
just bury it hundreds of feet underground in the desert

️I really like wirewitchviolet's insight that emoji are a spatial medium. One of the things people struggled with was how you'd know if the reader of your text expects to read "left to right" or "right to left". This proposal circumvents that question
