Whole blood donations are gender-neutral in Australia as of today! Everyone will be screened using the same sexual activity criteria.
This joins the changes that created the "plasma pathway" in June 2025, with plasma donations not subject to sexual activity restrictions at all.
Donation equality
More people in Australia can now save lives by giving plasma, a powerful type of blood donation. This includes gay and bisexual men, more transgender people, those taking pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and many others.
