    Merlin: I hear a Carolina Wren, a Cardinal, a Robin ...

    Neighbor's rooster: Me too!

    Merlin:

    Rooster: Try again!

    Merlin: Not a bird!

      @bethroots
      Isn't it lovely to have time for birdwatching in the mornings now? I've finished my word puzzles now, and will probably take time at my sewing machine this morning. #retirement is awesome.

        @bethroots yesterday at the community garden, perched on the edge of a large open cornfield on the high moraine, surrounded by acres of forest:

        Merlin: Osprey!

        Me: no you never! We are miles from any waterbody!

        5 min later, watch osprey fly over cornfield, awkwardly, then drop prey and swoop down to consume in the dirt.

        Me: Ok then.

            @EllenInEdmonton You are right. The free time is such a blessing! We never even had bird feeders before lockdown, but have kept them going since then. Now I have time to watch and listen. My free time has shifted some chores off hubby so he now has more free time and has been enjoying the birds each evening.

              Don't take too many chores off your hubby's hands, since you definitely want him to be doing them once it's his turn to retire! Of course, joint birdwatching is a lovely activity.
              I've shifted my activities so many times since retiring, because I can! Once I find a new interest or pursuit, I can usually jump right into it with both feet.

                @EllenInEdmonton Oh, no! I won't touch mowing the lawn or other landscape work, which are his biggest chores. He wanted a spacious lot and it's his to maintain! It's just little stuff like dishwasher duty.
