@nixCraft It looks like the price of heating oil doubled in the last week or so.

@nixCraft Problems with supply? No. Problems with affordability? Hell yes. (It was bad before, now its crisis mode).

I was looking at Renewable energy page and found the list of countries by renewable supply:

              1 China
              2 USA
              3 Brazil
              4 Canada
              5 India
              6 Germany
              7 Japan
              8 Russia
              9 Norway
              10 Spain
              11 France
              12 United Kingdom
              13 Turkey
              14 Vietnam
              15 Italy

I think it is high time to double down on renewable energy for cooking and transportation, heating/cooling and to get rid of the old oil based economy. I hope our policy maker move ahead with all available alt options.

@nixCraft in the future when oil runs out the countries who have invested the most in renewable energy will rule the world and will own the energy supply chain.

@joonq @nixCraft Initially, maybe. But nothing stops other countries from adding more renewable capacity, so it would be a short-lived advantage.

@nixCraft I would have guessed UK would have been a little bit higher given how much Scotland produces. It's not that we will run out of oil, I think it'll be the fact that the renewables will be so much cheaper very soon

                      @nixCraft

I'm hoping the war lights a fire under their asses, and renewable builds accelerate. Ignoring all the other good reasons to move away from burning old carbon, maintaining autonomy and resilience should be immediately obvious.

@nixCraft The per-country share of energy consumption from renewable resources (as opposed to absolute production figures) is also worth a look: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/renewable-share-energy

I think it is high time to double down on renewable energy for cooking and transportation, heating/cooling and to get rid of the old oil based economy. I hope our policy maker move ahead with all available alt options.

I have a solar array that, annually, accounts for about 56% of my home's energy needs (though, now probably down to 52% since we got an EV that we mostly use for running errands). However, since I don't have a battery and the house isn't configured for island mode, if there's an outage, my panels shut off.

@larsmb @nixCraft Yeah, natgas in domestic use is not really a thing in Finland and in our household house heating is with wood fireplaces and wind source electricity and both cars are electric.

I would really have to answer "I have no fucking clue".
