@controlc Extrapolating from my understanding of US law, the evidence required to bring a criminal case is necessarily seized long before any conviction. Could Canada be any different?

@jerome This is FUD. Spreading fear, uncertainty, and doubt. If you had new evidence, you'd be talking to the police, not spreading fear online and telling people to move instance.
As for @chad he posted as recently as of a few hours ago. Stop trying to make things difficult. Anyone is free to move to whatever instance they want, regardless of reason, but don't spread rumours and gossip to influence people to move.
Disclaimer: I don't know Chad. I've never met him, and have never lived in the same province as him. All I know, like any of you, is what was in that old CBC article.

@jerome I was initially redicent to move instances based on an accusation, but on further investigation and input from others, my feelings changed - especially on governance and management processes that were pretty much non existent on mstdn.ca.
I switched to @coop and I've been happy since 🥰
I do wish him well though, and props to the work he put in over the years.
I hope justice prevails.

@zazzoo @stephanie @mayintoronto So far Ottawa.place hasn’t accepted donations, which continues to worry me (but I think our numbers are still small). Cosocial requires a subscription membership, which gives me more confidence they will last a long time. Both seem professionally run, though, whereas mstdn.ca had significant growing pains. It started as a hobby for the admin, not with growth in mind.

@dan613 @zazzoo @mayintoronto Andrew and Leigh have just been waiting to open a bank account for the instance, and run it entirely non profit before accepting donations. It should happen! They're very comfortable running it themselves in the meantime
