Looks like Chromebook is being replaced with something called "Googlebook" and it is full-scale Microsoft-style Surveillance PC.

@jrdepriest @kkarhan @mcc It's my current solution. The only thing I worry about is that Google controls AOSP. I don't know if Graphene could pivot from being a fork to being a full OS by themselves.

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social I never trusted #BitLocker with it's #Govware - #Backdoor anyway! - Cuz now people put that trust into some #BackBox IC (#TPM) that is usually soldered down on the board that may or may not be #exploitable from the factory (whether due to #bugs, #incompetence or "Export Restrictions #Compliance" is irrelevant for the affected End-Users!)… - If (for some horrible reason that I refuse to acknowledge as legitimate!) someone needs a #Windows machine BUT with #FullDiskEncryption, they should use the only REAL #FDE: #VeraCrypt! #CensorBoot never was about #Security… - Calling it "#SecureBoot" is adopting the enemy's #Propaganda-Speak!

Yep.
Never tried myself, but apparently installing Linux on chromebooks is doable.
A real PITA, but doable.
Which makes ARM ones very nice bacpack computers : very light and with incredible battery life. -

- #GrapheneOS's "My way or the Highway!" - approach makes them so toxic that I'd rather daily-drive #OpenBSD on an 80x25 terminal as my sole device than having to deal with the former…

Apparently anytime you "wiggle your cursor" anything that is underneath the cursor gets fed into Google's surveillance AI https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/platforms/android/meet-googlebook/
One of these things that makes me consider detecting the platform from my webserver and blocking it entirely because the probability of whatever I wrote becoming an LLM input is too high

My kid is requires to have a chromebook for school so we are teaching our children to accept big brother watching every move our children make, whether awake or asleep. -
