    THE SPINANES
    Strand
    1996 U.S. pressing

Dragging through another Monday morning, and after a blind pull from the library, THIS gets first spin of the morning.

Although I don’t like this quite as much as their first effort Manos, there’s still a lot here to like.
Elliott Smith sings on two of these songs, and on whole, Strand is an album that leans heavily into making the studio itself an instrument; experimenting in THAT way more than live instrumentation and performance.
It’s a very dreamy, and gauzy sounding record.

Rebecca Gates has such a wonderful voice, and it continues to shine here.

After Manos, it’s almost like they made a conscious decision to not become part of the #90s music machine, which they could have easily done.
Instead, they just quietly made two really good records, another decent one, and that was it.

    Start with Manos.
If you like that, then work your way to Strand.
