Is someone else also having problems with KDE on #FreeBSD - Konsole is hogging 100% always and the desktop is quite slow and laggy.
Disclaimer: I use packages from quarterly.
drm-kmod installed, module loaded (i915) and getting a graphical session is no problem.
The problem is how slow and sluggish KDE runs currently... might it be a case of "you should run latest"?

    Any hints are welcome πŸ™‚

And: Falling back to X11 gets me the same deal
This is quite odd, last time I ran KDE on #FreeBSD there were no issues

I could imagine though that the packages in quarterly, KDE packages, have some problems - Can't really determine which one it might be (or multiple)

@jhx I tried moving from xfce4 to KDE on FreeBSD and my console log was full of reports of baloo dumping core. I am unimpressed with the quality of KDE nowadays.

Using KDE all the time - on Linux though
Xfce is great to get work done as well... and lightweight πŸ˜‰
Well, applications dumping core is not great...

@jhx I thought this was just me.

I have Wayland KDE on FreeBSD 15 using quarterly as well. The desktop is quite sluggish making me think I should roll back to my pre-desktop-installer script run snapshot and just stick to X11 and XFCE.

Same game here. I deployed Xfce for now since it runs smooth.

@jhx glad to hear. I prefer XFCE just thought that since the FreeBSD foundation’s video show casing the desktop installer script featured KDE and FreeBSD on the desktop is quite new to me I would branch out.

I will definitely try rolling back and seeing how performance goes keeping it simple.

Xfce is always a good choice. Used it extensively before for a long time.

Have you installed last week's errata for fdtimer? That should fix it.

@jhx @kemotep not sure but a wild guess and if it's related.

Before I switched to lxqt earlier this year I had trouble with plasma on FreeBSD being suddenly sluggish. I pinned it to using nightlight and/or the internal colorprofile or my monitor icc. It helped to turn them off.ymmv
