    I was actually trying to find solid info on this yesterday, because I keep hearing the law of the sea being invoked regarding the closure of Hormuz.

    This is clearly not true (https://www.un.org/depts/los/nippon/unnff_programme_home/alumni/tokyo_alumni_presents_files/alum_tokyo_dehghani.pdf) as the Strait of Hormuz sits 50/50 in Omani and Iranian contiguous zones, and, tough luck for fascists, the shipping channels are in Iranian waters.

    The UN Convention on the Law of the Sea makes it clear in Article 33 (https://www.un.org/Depts/los/convention_agreements/texts/unclos/part2.htm😞

    1. In a zone contiguous to its territorial sea, described as the contiguous zone, the coastal State may exercise the control necessary to:

    (a) prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws and regulations within its territory or territorial sea;

    (b) punish infringement of the above laws and regulations committed within its territory or territorial sea.
