How the hell does one even pick a furniture store ... There's like a million of them, and I don't actually have super strong preferences - I just want a new sofa that doesn't hurt my back ...

@JessTheUnstill if you don’t mind used we have had really good luck with going to the used/consignment furniture shop — someone has already vetted it and there’s usually just enough but not too many styles and options.

@JessTheUnstill we picked the one that gave us cookies when we came in the door. Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies are a hell of a marketing tool.

@JessTheUnstill walk in, see a sofa, sit down, feels good?, looks good?, affordable?, done. If not all of the above, go to next store. 👍

@JessTheUnstill probably the most important criteria is the quality of the DJ and if they have incorporated AI.

@JessTheUnstill See this is where Colorado stays winning. You just head to AFW because it's cheap, and let the tigers distract you from the political causes Jake Jabs will put your money toward.

No idea how I'd pick a furniture store if I hadn't grown up watching that man play with his pet tigers on TV though.

Being an adult sucks. Normally I just get shit off of Wayfair or go to IKEA. But that's not going to cut out if I need to find something that fits right.

@JessTheUnstill I am still convinced our most local furniture store is a front for something

I have never seen anyone step a foot in it

@JessTheUnstill @CordiallyChloe I ended up driving all the way to Seattle to access a showroom with the model of couch I found interesting. It turned out to be super comfy so I bought one.

@JessTheUnstill I paid someone a lot of money (interior designer) to pick out our furniture. From the stuff that she got us, I would highly recommend Article for slightly more adult but affordable furniture. It’s lasted well for us, especially the outdoor furniture which gets beat up.

@JessTheUnstill @CordiallyChloe btw, a trick that I’ve used with my couch is to get either a block of memory foam or a bag of shredded memory foam and stuff it into the couch. Basically makes it into a giant supportive memory foam pillow. 😍

@irene @JessTheUnstill we got a couple pieces from Article as well. It's like... actual real furniture made of solid wood. Hard to find these days and when you do find it it's usually so outrageously priced you wonder how anyone has any nice furniture at all. (and then you remember: they don't)

Only other thing I can suggest is seek out the Amish woodworkers if they're around. They'll often build you amazing quality pieces for a better price than these companies.

@JessTheUnstill Crate and barrel is good for investment furniture if you really want to sit on it before buying. Article doesn’t have stores as far as I know. But I have this couch purchsed third hand and have napped on it comfortably. Plus I have what turns out to be pretty bad fibromyalgia so I’m sensitive to uncomfortable surfaces. https://www.article.com/product/24754/sven-88-tufted-velvet-sofa-plush-cascadia-blue

@JessTheUnstill here's a website someone shared with me not long ago that will help you find furniture and ripoffs because a lot of the same furniture is sold through multiple stores under different names with wildly different prices based on their expected customer base...

@JessTheUnstill You'll have to go to a few stores and try the sofa out, no magic bullet, I guess. And yes, it does suck.
