@bammerlaan discussed here: https://www.searchengine.show/the-fediverse-experiment/
if the use of LLMs makes you angry, it's a bit of a challenge to get past the beginning, but worth it
@_elena In case you missed it, there was a follow-up episode about it on the collaborating podcast, #HardFork:
Hard Fork: Jonathan Haidt Strikes Again + What You Vibecoded + An Update on the Forkiverse

A month ago there was a lot of buzz on the Fediverse about a new Mastodon server set up by prominent journalists: #TheForkiverse.
There was a rush of sign-ups: nearly 10,000 users in a couple of weeks. People new to the Fediverse, willing to try it out.
It's been hard to gauge how active it still is... so this morning I re-downloaded @IceCubesApp so I could browse their local timeline.
I've been liking and replying to recent posts. Just doing my little in making them feel seen and welcome

@_elena Nice!
Hope they're all still enjoying their time here.
I've tried to catch up with how things are going by occasionally skimming through the Hard Fork podcast.
Would love to see a more dedicated "life of a fediverse admin" blog/podcast where people talk about their experience!

@_elena That was interesting! I like how they presented setting up a Mastodon instance as "starting their own social media platform". I suppose that is what they did, in a way.
Also interesting that they suggest the Fediverse's goals are old-fashioned, in wanting to go back to social media the way it was ten, fifteen years ago. Also a fair assessment... But what would be a non-evil way of making something new that appeals to younger people, then?
@bammerlaan @_elena Do the addictive media platforms actually appeal to them or is it just that they haven't had a chance to experience something different and less ensnaring?

@brianrepko yes! today I found out that press.coop is no more (I can't connect to it) but journa.host is amazing
@_elena @brianrepko Flipboard took over that project and converted those accounts to their server.
-
@bammerlaan ok so:
1) tap the three little dots in the top right
2) select edit timelines
3) click on the plus sign (top right)
4) select + local
5) type whichever server you want to explore
6) go back to the home feed, click on the Home pulldown menu and select the local server you're interested in(admittedly, it's a little complicated, in IceCubes it's more intuitive)

@mediopocillo @brianrepko oh great to hear that, I had completely missed it

@_elena You're a good person Elena! Keep up the good work!
@phillycodehound thank you Seth! I try my best 🥹

@_elena Looks like #TheForkiverse has 3303 active users in the past month out of 9975 and 37424 statuses.
