I pay my credit card off every month.

I pay my credit card off every month. Last week my bank's AI decided that payment was suspicious and reversed it. It was supposed to notify me but I can find no record of that SMS text. So the bill passed it's due date unpaid and now I'll be charged a month's interest. I want the bank to pay that interest since there was no reason for reversing that payment on the first place. AI is going to ruin all our lives.

@Oldfartrant unbelievable. Definitely go in person to the bank to complain and keep going up until someone makes this right and perhaps compensates you for your time.

@PapyrusBrigade yes. Simplii.

@Oldfartrant Can't speak to your country, but I'd look for a better bank?
Mine (UK) is infected with AI, too, but all it means when there's a "suspect" transaction - often the same amount on the same day/date as it has been for years - instead of quietly screwing me over, I get an automatic alert on their mobile app asking for confirmation (amount + vendor) via biometric (or other) authentication.
Banking doesn't have to be stuck in the 1980s. Many banks just prefer it that way.

@Oldfartrant
I am so afraid of these kinds of happenings. I had a similar experience with insurance and am still trying to figure out how it happened. -

@Oldfartrant When TD has done this kind of idiocy in the past, I can *usually* get away with yelling at them over the phone to fix it. Let me know what the outcome is.

@PapyrusBrigade yes. Simplii.
@Oldfartrant @PapyrusBrigade nitpick, but Simplii is just a flank brand of CIBC, not even a separate bank like Tangerine/Scotiabank.
Be sure to follow up with their ombudsman if you get nowhere with the branch: https://www.cibc.com/en/about-cibc/corporate-responsibility/service-commitment/resolving-your-complaints.html

@Oldfartrant stop using a credit card. If you are paying it off every month, just use a debit card and cut out the extra steps and choke the capitalist debt machine in the process.
Whatever benefit you think you're getting from using a credit card, you're not.

@bebadefabo @Oldfartrant That's bad advice. Credit cards have much better protection against fraud and errors. With a debit card, you generally can't get money back once it has left your account. Extra perks like airline points may or may not be worth anything to you, but if there's no annual fee for the card, there's no harm either.

@mansr @Oldfartrant Sorry if I didn't take financial advise from an account at "society of trolls"
@mansr how long have you been working in finance? When did you get your CFP?
You want to stay poor? Listen to this guy and guzzle the propaganda. The credit cards call them benefits, but these are not BENEFICIAL.
Take it from someone who has ACTUALLY WORKED as financial planner. Get rid of your credit card

@Oldfartrant How is a payment suspicious? Are there scammers out there that actually deposit money into random peoples accounts?

@mansr @bebadefabo I get points to use at Shoppers and Great Canadian Superstore in Comox. Last time I went there I got a 5 quart Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, some peelers, graters, etc. For about $5 plus points and because the total was over $500 they gave use a $60 potted flower arrangement on the way out.

@955_36 It's AI so no one knows.
