NEW | US Defense Secretary Hegseth Blames Media for Downplaying “Success” Against Iran
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has portrayed the US-Israeli war against Iran as a historic success, while attacking journalists for allegedly downplaying Washington’s battlefield gains.
Speaking at a Pentagon press briefing, Hegseth claimed that Iran’s air force, navy, and missile defense systems had been effectively neutralized after 13 days of attacks, with more than 15,000 targets hit since the start of the war. He asserted that Iranian missile production had been “functionally defeated” and described Iranian leaders as hiding underground.
However, footage shows some of Iran’s top officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Security Chief Ali Larijani, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, marching in Tehran during the annual Quds Day rally, challenging claims of leadership collapse.
Throughout the briefing, he criticized media coverage, suggested alternative headlines portraying Iran as “increasingly desperate,” and denied entry to some journalists and photographers, citing unflattering coverage.
