@evan Yeah, not great - will dig in and see what we can do @GottaLaff @anewsocial
@quillmatiq @GottaLaff @anewsocial thanks so much. This seems like it might get a lot better if BlueSky bridging goes opt-out rather than opt-in.

@LexyCameron @GottaLaff I second Lexy's comment.
I ran univ.-affil. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sites for over 30 years, and for 21 years we sought experienced CPAs to review my student's work (they were students, after all). And one thing I never did was criticize our CPAs for not doing more.
Volunteers are not our employees or contractors. They have lives & careers, and receive No compensation for volunteering.
@EthicalProfessor Thank you, exactly.

@quillmatiq The GitHub issue for getting bridged quote posts visible on Mastodon is https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/issues/1956, some good discussion in there early on. (Sorry for basically taking it over with my FEP-044f ecosystem monitoring.)
The implementation is nontrivial, since unlike most ActivityPub platforms Bridgy Fed probably won't want to issue a blanket quoting permission, but instead bridge quote post permissions from each Bluesky user and post.

@julian I'm not good at tech: What do I have to do?

@GottaLaff Nothing on your end, sorry! We just gotta wait until Bridgy Fed can support Mastodon-style verified quotes.
The GitHub link I posted is where its programmers are discussing if and when that can happen. (There is currently no timeline and, again, nothing for us to really influence.)

@julian Oh. Thank you. But what about my Bsky posts showing up here in full?
I'm not worried about my Mastodon posts showing up there.

@julian Or is that what you were referring to? I'm so sorry I'm not grasping this, my bad.

@GottaLaff I'm looking at the person's screenshot which shows your Bluesky posts bridged to the fediverse. Most of them are quote posts. Your own text in them is bridged fine, it's only the quoted posts that are shown as links instead of embeds. Mastodon quote posts need a consent flag that Bridgy Fed doesn't yet provide.
Notably, even if Bridgy Fed adds the feature, it will only show quoted posts of accounts who have also opted in. This is all a bit complicated!

@julian Oh!! Well that helps to clarify some. Thank you so much.

I have no control over how they appear. I quote-post a lot, & that's how they show up, out of my control.
& no, you do not need a Bsky acct to read the posts.
+ when people reply to me from here, I, too, have to click over to read the entire reply. I don't mind bc I appreciate engaging with you.
The rest of my reply is

Kthxbye
@GottaLaff I get the same view and find it a useful way to get links to stories I wouldn't otherwise see. Thank you for doing that. Plus there is also one cute dog.

I do wish, from the mastodon side, I knew whether there was something quoted or not.
I built a manual tool that can tell me (it also builds a blob of the quoted post that I can paste back to mastodon), but opening every bridged post in that tool when text doesn't make sense gets a bit old.
(Context note: I use tusky for mastodon most of the time and it doesn't have or show the "RE:" link that the mastodon web client shows.)
I have been subscribed to that github issue a while too.

@jpsays Hmm, I'm on the latest Tusky on mobile and I'm seeing the quote placeholder links. Would be a Tusky bug otherwise!

@julian Interesting. Thank you.

I was writing a reply, and in all honesty went to check versions only to find Iโm using โTuskerโ and realized I lost track of which client I was using. My bad.
I get your point on it being a client implementation.

@jpsays If you'd like to raise a bug with them, the issue is that the ".quote-inline" microformat (which contains the placeholder link) must only be hidden when there actually is a quote attached to the post.
They're in good company, this bug was originally in the Mastodon web interface too!

@GottaLaff @gghocket Obviously not your issue, but you should know why response here to some of your posts is minimal. We still look for your posts though!!

Definitely not your issue Laffy, my only gripes are with Bsky quirks but I'm totally glad you're there for us. Thank you again!

@gghocket Same. Thank you.
@pdiff1 I never once suggested that my issue was that "response here to some of [my] posts is minimal."
I don't know where you got that idea from.
My issue is people making demands that I change the way I post to suit their needs, when I have no control over the way my posts show up.
