Today is #EarthDay. Fittingly, I have my old Game Boy sitting on the table. This thing is over 30 years old, has outlasted countless batteries, and still works perfectly. 🕹️🌱
When we talk about sustainability in the tech industry, that’s exactly where we need to go back to: devices that are repairable, last a long time, and don’t suffer from planned obsolescence after two years. Disposable electronics are a bug in our economic system, not a feature.

How sustainable are you when it comes to your tech?
    Do you repair things yourself?

@root42 Technology from 1979 that’s still running and bringing joy in 2026! 😍 That’s the absolute best argument against planned obsolescence and disposable electronics. Beautiful machine, have fun gaming!

@tokiel Yeah ! I love retrogaming (repaired a Nintendo Entertainment System, and changed some batteries of GameBoy Color cartridges).
Also, my 14yo laptop is still perfectly working thanks to Linux distros.

@tokiel to some degree yes. With computers my limit is soldering and with new stuff when focused on laptops, unfortunatelly not. I’m on Mac and I hate how much they closed expandibility. Still lifecycle of their computers is longer than any other PC. but in general I try to repair my appliances. I like brands that allow that, come with clean spec or user friendly mechanics. Haier’s washing machine, Dyson’s vacuums they are already proven to me as example. I wish we came back to simpler tool+device combination to fix our own stuff with a bit o knowledge magic from the internet or AI more these days. Actually the second encouraged me very much to try to fix more myself all around. Not only electronics
