@itsfoss I know this is meant to be a joke! But I think about me being a Dane, speaking English as my second langauge. And where I use computers as tools but apart from that just try to live my life... So if people judge me for my imperfect English and / or for not jusing the Linux lingo correctly... I have to wonder what kind of world they really want to live in. A world where everyone are the same? Isn't that boring?

I might just switch to Danish and see how well we communicate from there...

@itsfoss I have started using computers when this was also called directory in the DOS/Windows world. It is still in a way. The cd and dir commands exist on Powershell until this day.

@itsfoss It really does not help that many Linux DEs are moving towards "folder" themselves.

@itsfoss If someone is computer-literate enough to understand what a directory/folder is (which now excludes an increasing amount of younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha, who only know how to use smartphones and apps, if recent reporting is to be believed), then I'm pretty happy with that without splitting hairs over terminology.

I have no problem with people showing their ignorance.

                      In fact, it's mostly helpful.

@CliffsEsport @giggls @itsfoss AFAIK they aren't the same thing. A directory is a file system thing while a folder is a broader UI concept. It could represent a dir, but it could also represent e.g. files from various dirs matching certain criteria. Two terms for two different, although related things. I'm fine with it.

@itsfoss I've been caught doing this! It's most embarrassing! LOL! It's a "directory", in a Linux group, and a "folder", everywhere else.

@itsfoss I'm sometimes tempted to say "folder" just cuz it's shorter but then I remember "dir" is shortest and all is well (works better written than spoken obvs)

@itsfoss we all have been standardised by windows terminology for computer use.
Call whatever you want just keep the technical aspect in mind.
