Saw something today I've never seen before! A Western screech owl tucked away in their little cactus home! So pleased I was able to get a couple decent photos of it.

@elaterite I have not! This was the first time I've seen a western screech owl and my first time seeing one in a cactus. Other than that, I've seen a handful of great horned owls around. My big bucket list item is to see a Gila monster in the wild!

There is some sort of strong vibe coming from a screech owl making a little home in a prickly plant, with an opening just large enough to peek from. Keeping at bay the searing, truculent outside world but still being able to observe it from a safe distance. -
@Florapis there are a few types of woodpeckers that are usually the ones who make the initial hole. The Gila woodpecker is the one I see and hear most frequently!

@2003MugishaPhocit I absolutely love the desert for this exact reason. It's so full of life! Out in this same area was another saguaro that I suspect has a great horned owl nest. I need to go back and check that out a bit more

In the same way we love to see nature,we should keep on protecting it as this will make it exist for even the generations to see existed before them.
