The venue I teach some of my classes at is a community hub that involves Men's Sheds and Grow Rhondda. They host things like a repair cafe and warm spaces with free food, and are integral to promoting mental health and wellbeing in a place that can have a lot of social isolation.

They've just discovered that the council won't be continuing their funding from March (they're withdrawing all funding from community spaces up this valley). They'll be reducing their hours to two days a week and -

    - will have to close permanently by September if they can't find funding.

They're setting yp up a GoFundMe, but does anyone have any leads on funding sources or avenues they might pursue? I've brought up contacting the Green party and joining the Co-Op's local community fund.

Areas they cover include arts and crafts, the Welsh language, permaculture and renewables, mental and physical health support, accessibility, access to food, repair cafes.

    Please boost!

@welshpixie That is so sad and infuriating but sadly typical. Grants for capital expenditure are not too difficult to find, but funding for ongoing staffing is always a problem.

@welshpixie I think the Menter Iaith charities would be interested in supporting language related projects. Definitely worth talking to your MS as they should be able to help.

@Dewines aye 😞 I think with building and staff costs it needs about £45k a year to run at bare minimum

@welshpixie I believe National Lottery do these kind of grants.

Will be happy to donate & share the Go Fund Me.

              Sounds like a great project.

@welshpixie unfortunately although a lot of supermarkets offer grants they are mostly for organisations with charitable status. Perhaps a grant from the national lottery or Red Nose day. MIND might be able to advise.

@welshpixie I know there are several programs of the EU that are specifically meant to support small and local communities. One of them is the European Regional Development Fund. But I have no idea how to get the funds and who needs to apply for them. πŸ™ˆ

@welshpixie I used to work for a community garden and run the local food programme, and we found that it was easier to get funding and interest in new ventures, but harder for established ones.

@welshpixie I know there are several programs of the EU that are specifically meant to support small and local communities. One of them is the European Regional Development Fund. But I have no idea how to get the funds and who needs to apply for them. πŸ™ˆ

@DrJLecter about 20 years ago I used to work in a community program that would apply for grants from them πŸ˜„

@welshpixie They have 2 funding rounds a year and I think one just started.

They do have a flexi fund though that can consider awards that have a deadline that makes waiting for a round difficult.
