I would suggest not.My father did some quite ghastly things to me and my siblings.
He was very good at sounding civil, and reasonable when he wanted to.
This experience of growing up with him taught me that just because something is expressed in reasonable, civil tones it does not follow that the "something" itself is reasonable or civil.

What I might think I said or tooted in a civil manner might very well be received in a completely different way to the one I intended.
