      @9to5linux
      AI integration is grave news for those of us who value privacy.

      if you want a version that is AI-free, you're going to have to stick to version 8.10.

          @9to5linux The article doesn't explain why one would want to use AI inside of an E-Book Manager.

            @gbsills Oh, the AI integration was added in Calibre 8.11 as a dictionary lookup feature (allows you to query AI about the currently selected text). The feature is completely optional, and no AI code is loaded until you configure an AI provider https://9to5linux.com/calibre-8-11-e-book-manager-adds-an-ask-ai-tab-to-the-dictionary-lookup-panel

              @9to5linux So it's like replacing the Wikipedia lookup (and local dictionary) that you get in a Kindle with AI?

                @gbsills Actually, the standard dictionary lookup feature is still there and it's still the default. The "Ask AI" one is optional for those who want to ask an AI 🙂
