One thing about me: I LOVE #trains.
    And so does the #EU.
From the high speed rail plan to passenger rights legislation, #EUPolicy touches #transport policy in countless ways.

I’m preparing a deep dive on trains next.
Is there anything you want to know more about? Ask me questions, tell me fun facts.

@hpod16 I'd love to understand why it is so complicated and expensiv to go on holidays by train. A few years ago, my wife and I went from Germany to Ireland by train. Booking was complicated, we payed 1000€ go and return each. Airplane would have cost us about 300€ each, booking would have been much easier.

@hpod16 I love trains as well, especially as, traveling with dogs, it's necessary. I'd love to know more about traveling with pets, as it's a nightmare finding the right information, sometimes. We're going to hike in Sweden, this summer, from Italy, and it took so much time to figure out the best solution 😥

              Edit: Fehler weg

@hpod16 I love trains, too. Travelling by train in Europe should become a lot more comfortable, at daytime or overnight, fast or slow, long distance or to next village.

Especially when crossing borders, we need
                  🚄 better connections and networks
🚄 reliable information for planning trips
🚄 easy booking of international tickets

I see high potential for European train travel. Looking forward to your posts!

@hpod16 one issue with train is the company that stop line for underuse, forcing dozen of people to take back their car.

@hpod16 why is the WiFi of Deutsche Bahn so bad? What is the best Internet connection provided by a train service you have used thus far?

Why do we have to rent a whole cabin when traveling with a dog in the night trains? Which is the most dog friendly EU country to travel by train?

@hpod16 Sadly it nearly is impossible to travel without revealing lots of private data in most countries nowadays. Democracy needs anonymous public transport!

@hpod16 I took the train from Schiphol Airport to Amersterdam for a few Cdn $. On the return the conductor asked for considerably more. "Why so much?"
                            "This is First Class"
I looked around and replied "THIS is First Class?"
So he charged me the regular fare.
In Canada there's no class, everyone gets a comfortable seat.

@mxhdroom @hpod16 I hear you. A train from Powell River to Vancouver would save me flying to see a specialist. I don't know how a train would bridge the two fjord though. On the other hand the float planes are fun and have medical fares.

I am interested in the history of toilets on rails.
                                    For example:
When was the first accessible toilet on trains?
When was the first pay-to-use toilet in train stations?
How are they designed? And why?,...

@hpod16 Thank you for doing this!

Which actions is the EU taking to make cross-border train services more competitive to other modes of transport, especially to flying?

With regard to ticketing, safety and operating licensing, for example.

My buddy and I rode a train back from Mexico City in 1972 (or '73 ?) to Laredo or Brownsville. It looked like something out of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid ! 😉 I'm pretty sure it was steam. It was so cool ! And kind of deserted - very few people on board. Will never forget that day. I wonder what you can find what trains ran in Mexico during that time and what happened to them ? or that one ?
