@MissConstrue I saw a picture posted on another site. There was no radome anywhere to be seen. Not the mounting fins, nor any other part of the apparatus.

The planes were parked in fairly close formation out in the open at a base that is within easy range of Iran's drones and ballistic missiles.
I am just an amateur aviation geek, but it seems like they were sitting ducks for a mass attack? -

The aircraft, identified in open source reporting as belonging to the 552nd Air Control Wing, appears to have suffered severe damage concentrated around the rear fuselage, where the E-3’s radar dome and associated surveillance systems are housed. That section contains critical components of the aircraft’s AN/APY-2 radar, central to its airborne command and control role.

The Boeing E-3 Sentry is a flying command-and-control center. It's a tactical spy plane, designed to give commanders a sweeping, real-time picture of everything on the battlefield.
They are rare, old, and very expensive. Iran blew one up, along with some air to air refueling planes, and injuring 10-14 soldiers, numbers vary upon report, but it's getting very little airplay in American media.

@lhauser @Darkphoenix @MissConstrue I was thinking the same, only on a much smaller scale. Also, unlike at Pearl Harbor, the strike on the Saudi base came after we had already been at war for weeks and other regional bases had been hit. Seems that US could've known that the planes might be a target?

If our miltary is relying on Washington to make elementary security decisions for them they are cooked. -
