Six minutes before it started abrading the rock, #Perseverance captured a couple images of the spot it was going to operate on, from closing in distances.

    Animation

The first image was captured in full sunlight, but the second was under the shadow of the turret, and has been processed to match the overall brightness of the first image. The final view is the same image but white balanced to show green / blue colors better.

    Image details/credits in alt text.

Those blue / green minerals may be what gave the abrasion its pale ochre and slightly greenish hues.

Attached: 1 image As anticipated, #Perseverance has now abraded the rock inside its workspace. The rock shows interesting pale and somewhat greenish colors.
