Overly simplified it meanss technology used to deliver wide area network and security controls as a cloud computing service directly to the source of connection versus through a data centre. The other marketing hype that U.S Tech firms will be using is "on premises solutions", hoping to stop the trend of technology replacement. Essentially they are attempting to give more local (sovereign) control over the data which means there's no need to change your application. Not sure that will work long-term.

But one factoid stood out with regards to market fragmentation: Europe has 44 operators with more than half a million subscribers, compared to only 8 in the US, 4 in China and Japan, and 3 in Canada and South Korea.

Uniserve Communications Corporation is completing a new data centre in B.C. with the expectation that it will bring new customers.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/uniserve-provides-flagship-data-centre-185722978.htmlAlberta is opening the doors to U.S. Tech in a bid to add as many #DataCentres as possible. There doesn't appear to be any concern about preferring USA #TechBros versus supporting Canadian technology. But on a positive note they are also encouraging potential new data centre operators to build gas turbine powered electric generators to supply their own power needs, thereby supporting Alberta's fossil fuel industry. It's a win-win for anyone who doesn't breath...
