back in the days of dos i did a little programming with turbo pascal, which was quite a joy to use at the time (it had a lovely tui ide and the compiler was _fast as hell_ compared to their C compiler)

back in the days of dos i did a little programming with turbo pascal, which was quite a joy to use at the time (it had a lovely tui ide and the compiler was _fast as hell_ compared to their C compiler)
but Pascal had a weird quirk which was that strings were stored prepended with a length byte...
...which meant no string could exceed 255 characters
if you were doing, say, a text editor this was really annoying
