This will be the longest of long shots, but: a decade ago, I backed the #Coostr on Kickstarter - it's a funny little drink coaster in the shape of a turtle and you can pop the shell up when it's not got a drink on it.

Obligatory photo of one of the last 3 surviving Coostrs in my house.
@timixretroplays i went from 'aww cute' to 'oh god no' real fast

If you did the same, and still have them collecting dust somewhere - could I have them? I bought a bunch but have lost most of them through multiple house moves and a breakup, and it looks like the website went down permanently in late 2024.
@timixretroplays you would think that the molds are still in use somewhere, some aliexpress mfr would be knocking those out instead of yet-another fidet-pop-toy.

@rotopenguin you made me go look - there's ones that lift up and look surprised when you put a cup on them, but this design doesn't appear to be on there

@timixretroplays I bet someone more clever than myself could make a print in place model of that.

@timixretroplays It’s kind of culturally revealing how surprised I was at the request in this post, but this is exactly what we should be doing - redistributing surplus goods to the people most eager to have them. Far better to land things in the hands of collectors than landfill. I hope you can adopt many turtles out of nonuse.

@timixretroplays Those are cute. What kind of material were they made out of?

@ajroach42 dunno, it doesn't say - but they're obviously flexible, the kickstarter says they're injection-molded, BPA free and dishwasher safe, and not 3D printed, and whatever it is hasn't degraded and started smelling strongly of anything in a decade, if that helps narrow it down.

@gloriouscow @timixretroplays lemme guess: Trypophobia? (I had the same reaction.)

@gloriouscow @timixretroplays Yeah, I'm not going to.
-
@whybird it does, but hasn't been posted to since 2015, and that last post has someone asking 6 and a half years ago where to buy them (with no response).
The guy does have a LinkedIn, a small part of me wants to message him and ask if he'd sell the equipment and IP... I know just enough about injection moulding to be able to say roughly how these were made, but if he'd want thousands of dollars to start there's no chance it's something I could realistically consider doing.
