@zkat Also, not for nothing, I just cannot develop a theory of mind for why someone would behave like that. Why would anyone think that's not only an OK thing to do, but something *positive* to do with their time on this planet?
@xgranade because they just feel like being insufferable motherfuckers

@zkat assholes, the lot of them.

ominous "something happened here"

@zkat you're much more patient than me... I'd just ban, close and lock issues IF I respond any way at all... Entitled fuckers...
I mean these days you can't even know you're not being catfished by a bot...

some nerd: "I just want to have a discussion about LLM use in your project"
me: "this is not the place to be having that discussion. I have already established a boundary"
some nerd: "I am offended that you are not having this discussion right here, on my terms"fuck you, this is my own damn repo
this is literally on one of the 1 or 2 open source projects I'm still willing to maintain at any level. Just absolutely not giving me any reason to keep doing open source at all. Fuck all of these people, and fuck open source.
@zkat good for you. You (or anybody) don't owe those people anything!
Also thank you for your (mostly) thankless work.

like jesus fuck I'm not even ragging on LLMs or fighting anyone. I'm literally just saying "this is not the space for this discussion" and marking replies as off-topic, including my own responses to them, so as not to detract from the completely unrelated issue.
@zkat Ugh. "Debate me" vampires. Sucking energy from fruitful pursuits and turning other people into more "debate me" vampires, too.
Unfortunately the thing about them having to be invited in is a myth, but they should definitely be thrown out.

@zkat immature entitlement at its finest

@zkat ‘yes / maybe later’ mindset strikes again.
“I already decided and the answer is no” isn’t an acceptable answer for these people. You have to keep discussing until you agree.

@benjamineskola "no is a complete sentence" etc

@zkat still thank you so much for making / maintaining kdl :). I was really happy finding it and am happy using it.

@nein I'm glad you like it! It still brings me enough joy that I'm willing to put my precious time into it occasionally, but I really can't put a lot of effort into it these days

@zkat that's totally fine. You don't owe anyone building stuff for free, I am very happy using it as-is

@zkat also I think that we are in a good time to build open source software without guarantees and shiny surfaces to escape capitalist appropriation of our work

@zkat that's the difference on open source and free software. The power relationships. Fork off and shut up seems a reasonable response on your behalf.

@zkat Open source is (maybe subtly) about maintainership, and LLMs are incredibly hostile to maintainers.
And licensing! I definitely have moved towards the Radical Copyleft over the last two years, after spending most of my career leaning towards permissive licenses, because I finally see the value of having some legal teeth to bite back against bad actors. Even GPL isn't some cure-all though, and it's exhausting.
It's going to be a dark couple years of existing open source exploitation trends/burnout getting worse, which will be recounted by ghouls: "I don't understand why $maintainer doesn't just drink the Radithor I'm hawking! I've never felt more vitality in my bones."
