    @infobeautiful That and a quick look at Stonehenge are the most interesting views of the A303.

        @infobeautiful On the next upper level there will be again a cart, pulled by a crippled biped.

              @infobeautiful Some Roman roads were laid straight on top of existing "Celtic" log roads in Britain, France and lots of Europe.
              There was a Pan-European Celtic Culture reaching to northern Turkey. Romans hated it, lied about it and tried to "genocide" the Helvitians as they migrated to "Switzerland" to avoid Slavs.
              Romans get credit for lots of Greek, Celtic, Egyptian etc stuff, because victors & Colonial powers write most of the history.

                @infobeautiful The legend implies either that upper levels of the road are made of legionaries and Jaguar XJ220s, or that squids used roads for transport.

                          @infobeautiful is the pic from the 80's? The "modern car" is a sports car, not a SUV.

                              @infobeautiful This road has seen many a traveller. King Arthur himself found solace in the ale houses along this thoroughfare.

                                @infobeautiful I can only assume that there haven’t been many UK-based respondents to this… as they would all be making pothole-related comments 😮‍💨

                                (justifiably, as it has been a relentlessly-wet winter, leaving many UK roads in appalling condition)

                                  @infobeautiful

                                  I'd only seen photos of Roman roads made with flagstones.

                                  Hadn't realised that some were aggregate.

                                  Now wondering why only flagstone photos get widely distributed.

                                    @infobeautiful Whenever I come across the A303, I always think of the film 'Wag the Dog,' so let me take this moment to say: if you've not seen it, it's a brilliant and darkly funny film and you should watch whenever you next have the chance.
