I've been working on this #documentary about one of my mentors, David MacDonald since 2022. He was a professor at Syracuse University for over forty years and is a beloved figure in the #ceramics world. This project has been an immense undertaking. My hope is to finish shooting by spring 2027 and to complete post-production by 2028.
At this point, I think we could benefit from the addition of a producer. Suggestions and boosts welcome.
@potterybyosa That sounds amazing.
Are you considering doing some sort of crowd-funding to help with production costs? I only mention because I'm backing an upcoming Kent Melton doc on Kickstarter and I'd totally help funding this doc too!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mariaandreotti/untitled-kent-melton-documentary@chris We did an initial push in 2022 and will do another to cover post-production once shooting is complete. We’re not just looking for funds, but project supervision/guidance. Thank you for your willingness to support.

@dilmandila Hi, can you think of anyone in the States who might be interested?

@kate from the little I know about you, I think you would absolutely adore David. His very presence is nurturing. My videographer Amilcar Navarro does such a wonderful job of capturing his essence.

Here’s the most important thing I’ve learned while working on the #documentary about David MacDonald: African American ceramicists aren’t anomalies. Each one is part of a lineage of craft persons who came before, and that lineage is tied to the existence of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs).
David attended Hampton U and studied under Joseph Gilliard who was also a Hampton alumnus. This is true of many craftspeople of David’s generation. He is 80 years old.

Very nicely done from every perspective, and I would love to see the full film when finished. We truly do need to keep artistic history alive for it to inspire the next generation.
And, I also think @_elena would be someone to ask about the production side of filming.
