So evidently some large number of the 'blank' PDF documents in the epstein dump have, according to numerous reports, turned out to be MP4s renamed to .pdf

People are posting these videos on various social media sites.

You may wish to turn off video autoplay - or visibility - whenever possible, because my fucking gods do I not want to see a couple of fucking pedophiles interacting with an underage person and I imagine many of you are similarly disinclined.

In infosec, you frequently run across shit that you cannot unsee.

You do not need to witness the specific harms here; you already know what's going to be in there; it does the victims no good for you to traumatize yourself specifically watching them get harmed.

honestly it doesn't even have to be "the really bad shit" to cause it to stick with you in a traumatic fashion.

there's a reason why I keep images off whenever feasable.

Someone who had consulted with D.C. types once told me that the espionage guys deliberately do this as a last ditch effort when one of their own is caught. They think it makes the public stop talking about the case. Something to think about.

This has even gotten me while I've been working in TV engineering. I could have done with exactly zero of those helicopter shots of people being killed by Miami police that I had to watch for signs of microwave shot breakup while we were live

Nowadays thankfully I don't have to do that and I generally only look up at what's on the air when cute animals are doing their thing like goats eating our reporter's hair.

I'm not even kidding. One of our reporters now has what look like grown out to about cheek length bangs because a goat bit off some of her hair live on TV.

That's just silly though and she wasn't even mad (I wouldn't be either!)

@munin If it takes extreme measures to get people angry about the problem, what recourse do we have in our society where we seem comfortably numb to many atrocities that are being committed.

I don’t understand why people like to consume horror movies. There is no eye bleach. Why muck up your mind with all the potential ugliness and evil that could potentially ever happen to people? Why not create and focus on creative endeavors that support beauty and truth?

Here's a hint: inflicting PTSD on people does not result in them -caring- and typically results in -avoidant- behavior.

Just bc some of us don't want to be screamed at 24/7 and ambushed with politics, gore, and creeps doesn't mean we don't care or we aren't actually doing things elsewhere.

This is where I come to be silly and a little sus. If I need news or info, I know where to find it.

Just as a sort of thing? Some of us are ppl who experienced similar things firsthand. So throwing un-CW reminders at us isn't okay.
