    In 2025 the speed limit on the road was reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h

    Last week in the Dáil, Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice described the reduction in speed limit as "absolutely nuts", claimed it had led to more road fatalities, and called for it to be reversed.

        @ccferrie

        That single sentence could apply to so many journalists and politicians...

        The latter spout any old shite and the former just give it a free pass...🤷‍♀️

            @peterbrown @ccferrie That'd be a bit too active for him.

            Glad to see that apart from him and one or two others the focus was on effective enforcement and rolling out further, more consistent, speed restrictions. Also on considering all road users' needs and not just the wishes of the Mr Toads around the place.

              @peterbrown @ccferrie I like the way you think - sort of an ad-hoc filter for roads. Moving the obstacle between places where it would deter speeding without obstructing traffic would help to keep things fresh, too.

                @peterbrown @ccferrie Here people would fret ambulances couldn't get down the road (regardless how wide they are) and insist on parking on the footpath instead.
