    Looking for new #music can be really hard, especially when you try to avoid algorithms. I find myself searching if a band I just discovered and like is AI. The killer is when you discover "AI music" on #Bandcamp. Then it turns into a whole thing where I have to go report them for violating Bandcamp's Generative AI policy.

    @terminaltilt That stinks!

    I mixed finding new music and trying to incorporate it with our Minidisc player because I discovered Web MiniDisc Pro to easily load music. Was thinking Music Discovery with a Mix tape vibe in the car.

    Got too carried away trying to automate a script for a new weekly playlist generation and failed at working with the API(I'm a tinkerer not skilled at any programming).

      The search continues, and it is a minefield. This is a perfect example: I found a new metal album, and the music is actually human-made. But they wrapped the final product in clearly algorithmic, uncanny valley "AI artwork." Your eyes are immediately lied to before you even press play. It’s exhausting.

        Oh man, Minidisc players are so cool! I looked into getting one and they start at around $200 on eBay from what I can tell.

          Yeah, we are old school OG owners of one & found another one in a local OKC electronics bargain bin.

            @terminaltilt omg that's so bad. Like folks for the love of god, find a couple of reenactors and a photographer. They're probably charging peanuts these days anyway, but support your creative community.

              @adubya @terminaltilt I watched a few YouTube videos about them. Sony made some incredible players. There are some car units that can record what you are listening to, like say talk radio, and it will continue recording the program after the car is off. I think I saw Sony is still making some blanks still. I could be completely wrong about that, but it is cool if true.

                I have a confession: the search just broke my radar. I thought I found a killer new Power Metal band called Saint Reaper. The album sounded incredible, and I was about to recommend it right here.

                Then I dug into the background. The "band" is totally fake.

                I only realized it was AI when I traced it back to a YouTube network called "Hard & Melodic Music Records" that pumps out fully polished albums for multiple fake bands every few weeks. They even fabricated fake human names for the band members to bypass Bandcamp’s human only rules.

                It is absolutely heartbreaking that finding indie music now requires forensic accounting to avoid algorithmic content farms. The deception is deliberate.

                    @resplendent606 @terminaltilt That sounds amazing and totally up Sony's ally.

                    Right now me would probably just Solar Punk it with low power Single board computer, Software Defined Radio(SDR) USB, & dashboard Solar setup. The Software for SDR has record feature.

                      Veronica Explains talked about this Gnome app Shortwave, if you ever get into web radio. It has this cool download feature. Might be a great pairing with The Indie Beat Radio.

                      GNOME's streaming radio app is... really good

                      Shortwave is a Rust-based streaming radio (IP radio/internet radio) application written by Felix Häcker, and it's my favorite way to manage my streaming radio stations on Linux. It's a GNOME Circle...
