@evan amazing, thank you!

@spencexyz @clew no and no. I came across it the other day and it was still in my tabs. the dev is here though
-
@clew right now it refers to content you put online, like photos and posts you make about your long distance bicycle adventures.
long term, I'd love to see a federated version of Strava. every year they cut down their api access further and further. but it's our data and we should be able to share with any external apps we want.
I'm trying to figure out how I can use the tools I'm building to expose more cyclists to the fediverse and help fuel that demand.
Hey @haraldkliems, you’ve had a lot of experience with Strava and the various alternatives, right? Any thoughts on what would make an open – and possibly federated – alternative viable?

@kaleb @haraldkliems do you have any recs for good alternatives?

@spencexyz @kaleb I think other people have pointed you to wanderer.to already. But I think a lot of the campground info would be much more useful in @openstreetmap. But maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do with your platform.

@haraldkliems @kaleb @openstreetmap the platform started out just POIs on a map. I found it hard to use open street maps to view the data I wanted about the campgrounds. In the future, I'd like to have the platform sync with OSM so people can see the data in other places.
right now I'm exploring other functionality for the site similar to things that https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/ has. But modernized with new functionality that I would like to have.
-
@kaleb @javahippie hey Tim, I'd love to check out your project. I tried to sign up but I need a registration password. Would you be able to DM me one?

Trying out the fediverse for the first time today. I've been reading a lot about it, now it's time to figure out how it works and build an internet home here.
My goal is to figure out how I can bring https://gobikecamping.com/ into the fediverse and help people who love bike touring own their data and escape the metaverse.
#NewHere #introduction@spencexyz A reasonable departure strategy for those still with many followers on X is to copy posts made primarily on preferred platform there, not interact with responses on X, and place ID and preferred platform of interaction onto the X profile to encourage follower migration.

@spencexyz USA only?
@AsphaltandEarth it's not USA only, but it's only been seeded with USA and Canada info since that's what I know. With addition of the trip sharing and documenting features I'm adding, I'm hoping to branch out more to an international audience.

Welcome! I think you’ll find a lot of fellow bike lovers here. Enjoy the Fediverse! -
@spencexyz regarding a federated kind of Strava, do you know https://wanderer.to/ ? It recently added federation support and does the social part of Strava well.
... which is why I'm currently not working on #WueRide which @emeline mentioned. @clew
... and I really like the idea of having a federated decentralized "POI thingy" like your campsites in the USA, but not limited to that
@rolf @spencexyz @emeline @clew I've tried wanderer but don't want to host my own instance. Are there instances, beside "demo" to join and see how it works?
