Anyone asserting encryption is a tool for crime is either painfully misinformed or is attempting to manipulate legislators to gain oppressive power over the people.

    Encryption is not a crime,
    encryption is a shield.

Encryption protects you from cyberattack, identity theft, discrimination, doxxing, stalking, sexual violence, physical harm, and much more.

For safety, for privacy, for democracy, and for all our human rights, it's critical that we defend our right to encryption.

@Em0nM4stodon asserting that encryption is a tool for crime is paramount to saying guns, knives, crowbars, cars are all as well.

@Em0nM4stodon I also just fucking love how we're having the exact same battles again and again.

They tried to criminalize PGP claiming it was exporting munitions.
They tried to criminalize VoIP until they got wiretapping. (CALEA.)
They tried to criminalize Internet access until they got backdoors (also CALEA.)

They're not going to stop until forcibly removed or any form of privacy carries the death penalty.

@Em0nM4stodon OK if they want to remove Encryption, I'm ok with that, but only when they also going to remove Encryption (classified details) of every single government deals with every country. Defense, banking, business deal,. Put all classified details on public portal so every citizen can see it, what is running in country.

@Em0nM4stodon So I was just thinking about this and what I think was the perfect metaphor just popped into my head.

Those in power mandating that people not be allowed to use encryption is the same thing as if they were mandating that we not have locks on our doors. They don't want us to have encryption so they can break into everything we own without a warrant and it's absolutely no different from requiring no locks on houses so they can break in to our houses without a warrant.
