Professor calls South Carolina's Ten Commandments bill 'highly unconstitutional,' but it may survive

A law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom in South Carolina is currently in the House of Representatives. This bill would make South Carolina the fourth state, after Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, to mandate the posting of the Ten Commandments in public schools. This bill has sparked intense debate over First Amendment rights and religious freedom, as well as concerns over the potential for marginalizing students of non-Christian faiths. However, proponents of the bill say displaying the Ten Commandments in classrooms will support civic and moral education.
