    Thinkpad incoming.

What flavor of Linux should I consider as someone who wants to use that computer as a tool and not as a hobby?

As much as I have enjoyed messing with computers as a hobby in the past, I really don't have the time to tinker every time I use it anymore.

Requirements are simple, really: will work with relatively modern Thinkpad hardware (T14 3rd gen AMD). Ideally should work with USB video out, though I can use HDMI if needed, it's just another cable to hook and unhook.

@balloonpup I've got an Ideapad Gaming 3 (relatively new Lenovo laptop very similar to a Thinkpad.) And have been running Fedora on it with great success. Everything just works. Even hybrid video.

@balloonpup I'd say whatever you're already comfortable with. My general "just for work" recommendation would be Ubuntu though. It comes with a bit of Corporation BS but it's a widely used and supported distro for serious enterprise purposes.
