    Investigators found that leaders of a prison gang in Puerto Rico were selling inmates drugs in exchange for voting for Gov. Jenniffer González-Colón, a longtime Republican.

    After Trump’s election, prosecutors were told not to pursue charges.

      @ProPublica Your headline is misleading. According to the article, they were given instructions to drop certain parts of the investigation only days after the election, before either Trump or Gonzalez-Colon had taken power and appointed their own people.

          @farbel @ProPublica

          Someone didn't read the article.

          Soon after Trump took office, the lead prosecutor, Jorge Matos, was told by a supervisor to take the investigation no further, according to four people familiar with the case.

              @HakeemG @ProPublica "But as federal prosecutors prepared an indictment against the inmates and staff in November 2024 — just days after Trump won the election and González-Colón clinched the governorship — they received a surprising directive. Their bosses in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico instructed them to exclude the voting-related counts against the inmates and all charges against the prison staff." Even the bit you cite happened before Trump installed anyone.

                Those two events aren't mutually exclusive. I read the entire article.
