As someone who just shut down their small retail brand that also had a strong cultural angle, I know how hard it is out there. So I empathize with the owner.
However as a retailer you’re always a for profit company, few cultural grants out there ever fits the criteria. Im sorry to see how she was misled to think she « could » get approved for an art grant. I see the argument, you give lots of exposure to artists and artistic pieces. But it’s always no, they don’t see business that way.

I'm glad we have the Indigenous Arts & Culture Fund, and I hope one day we can find ways for people like the founder to be able to showcase arts in commercial spaces in an inclusive way.
