macOS Sequoia/Tahoe broke changing the VoiceOver login voice. Here's how to fix it. Follow every step carefully. I take zero responsibility if you mess up your system — this works, but you need to pay attention. Thread below. #VoiceOver #macOS #Accessibility

First — open Spotlight and search for Directory Utility. Click the padlock, enter your password. Go to the Edit menu and enable the Root User. Set it a password you'll remember. Do NOT forget this password.

Now log out of your normal account. At the login screen, press Option+Enter. A text field will appear. Type "root" as the username, enter the password you just set. You'll go through a brief setup — just blast through it, don't worry about configuring anything.

Once on the root desktop, open VoiceOver Utility (Spotlight it). Go to Speech, pick your voice. Done. Now log out of root immediately and log back into your normal account.

IMPORTANT — go straight back into Directory Utility, click the padlock, go to Edit and DISABLE the root user. Do not leave root enabled. This is a security risk if you leave it on.

That's it. Apple broke this and there's no official fix. If this helped you, share it. If you use FileVault, sorry — this won't work at the pre-boot screen, that's a separate beast entirely. #VoiceOver #Accessibility #macOS
