I'm guessing all those great and wise security sites that give raving reviews for Nord VPN have never thought to use something like Little Snitch. Because if they had, they'd have seen that #nordvpn pulls a shitty dickhead move and tries to connect you, the user, directly to google analytics and crashalytics.
I do not give a shit what you can say to justify this. You are wrong. The very purpose of using a vpn is to add a degree of security and privacy to your online experience. Allowing a directly link to google is in no way a proper secure behaviour.
The good thing is they offer a 30day money back policy. That is most certainly my next move here. Back to Mullvad. Been happy with them for a long time. Just thought I'd sample another vpn. Never had #mullvad try to connect to google on the backside, nor anywhere else.

@retech
Mullvad and Windscribe are the only two that tick all the boxes for me, the rest all have at least something about them I find sus. -

@retech you mean beyond analyzing user behavior on their own site?

Hmmm just subscribed to NordVPN....
Could you elaborate a bit? (Non-techie) -

Could you elaborate a bit? (Non-techie)@bott @Sir_Osis_of_Liver I think they do data collection on your usage. The crashalytics connection is a 3rd party company they use to measure and track your client/app errors when it crashes. At least on a mac, a crash generates a system report that they're collecting (without your permission) about your machine, os, other apps installed and loaded, connection, etc. That's pretty shitty to me because I did not consent. The google one... hell if I know what exactly they are collecting and damned if I want google having a single byte more of my data.
The utter lack of transparency on all this is extremely suspect to me as well. If they're so security minded then they of all people should know to disclose that policy to the users.
All of it makes it a big no to me. I was willing to try and ignore the incessant barrage of "you need this app too, buy it now" from them.
Mullvad has no was of even tracking their users. You buy it and their system assigns you a user code. That's it. The only account info either of you have. And there is no 3rd party tracking or analytics involved.

@Kierkegaanks No. The local app for nord on my computer is trying to call out to google and crashlytics sites. Never disclosed that they wanted to and are without using Little Snitch the user would have no way of knowing they're doing it.

Thanks, might have to re-consider #nordvpn then. As you say the purpose is being safe and private.
For me no google is non-debateable too.. -

For me no google is non-debateable too..@bott @Sir_Osis_of_Liver Cheers. I was shocked to see it pop up. I'm assuming it is not confined to mac. While Little Snitch is a mac app, I think linux has a few similar ones. I override even system connections. And I don't let anything on my computer call out to google. I'm tired of the billionaires owning our data.
