      Meta patented an AI that lets you keep posting after you die

      Meta was recently granted a patent for tech to keep your social media accounts running using AI if you take a break or die.

      @stux I always have been somewhat artificial intelligent.

      But seriously: So glad that all my Meta accounts are gone...

        @stux gives 'a dead account' a totally different meaning though.

            @stux I don't think deleting the accounts does anything except set "deleted" to "true".

            I had a Facebook account in 2005 - for a week. I deleted it.

            Ten years later I had to create another to test a Facebook extension. FB resurrected my original account. All my posts were still there.

              And I thought twitter would do it first...

                @AbramKedge @stux

                Yeah, that's pretty typical. We usually call it a soft-delete. We don't always reveal to the user it's just a flag on an account.

                It's pretty lousy.

                  My elderly mother (89) was not happy i deleted WA, as i am the only one in the family to do so. She has to use Signal just for me. At least she does.

                    @stux I deleted mine a few months ago. Unfortunately, I am stuck with WhatsApp for another year while my son is at school+clubs. After that, WhatsApp will be gone.

                          @stux It’s a very weird bubble these people live in, making them so out of touch with what’s going on anywhere that it takes probably multiple teams dozens of meetings to present THIS to the world.

                                    Once upon a happier time it was (theoretically) possible to delete tweets off Twatter. Odd (not) how this is nigh on impossible now.

                                        Meta patented an AI that lets you keep posting after you die

                                        Meta was recently granted a patent for tech to keep your social media accounts running using AI if you take a break or die.

                                        @stux I just imagine my long-terminated account being resurrected by a bot that is objectively more attractive and cooler than I was.

                                        I bet they are living their best simulated life commenting unbalanced parentheses on the posts of bots pretending to be emacs users.
