I saw that there’s now a mobile version of Roller Coaster Tycoon (Roller Coaster Tycoon Touch) and I thought it might be fun (one of the Netflix bundled mobile games). A couple of hours of casual play in, it was clear that the game was carefully designed to make it progressively harder and harder to make progress without in-app purchases.
@EUCommission , if you want to actually make things safer online, how about making that kind of predatory practice illegal? Children are particularly vulnerable, but so are a lot of adults. No need for age verification, just an outright ban.
So sad to see a such a respected game series used for this kind of whale farming.

@david_chisnall
It makes doing anything modern online feel grimey, knowing this kind of money drain is inevitably going to appear and try to suck you dry.Open source of the original rct2 including android here for anyone looking https://openrct2.io/

@david_chisnall @EUCommission there may be some development towards that - Stop Killing Games petition authors were invited to European parliament after getting required 1m signatures (SKG addresses microtransactions aside from games being shut down), and seems response has been extremely positive

@david_chisnall @EUCommission everything released under the name of Chris Sawyer's franchises since the very early 2000s has been a scam.
OpenRCT is fun tho, if you have a copy of the original RCT2 lying around.

@EUCommission @david_chisnall My experience is that is pretty much the majority of all games. The ratcheting difficulty I live with and then finish with it. The incessant adverts are a more immediate reason for termination for me, but I found for many games the ads don’t appear if you play offline…
although there is also the fact the ads are often not anything to do with the game, and that should be ASA business. -
