Agreed. I am beginning to wonder if Carney actually understood his own speech.

@TheresaReason @NMBA I think Carney is walking a bit off a tightrope with his wording here. What he actually said was that “Canada supports regime change in Iran”, what he didn’t say was that Canada supports the particular method that the USA was going about it. Canada isn’t supporting the USA/Israel action in any meaningful way, so this is just diplomats being diplomatic. (1/2)

With Canada in America’s crosshairs next & large Iranian & middle eastern populations in Canada, I can see why he needs to watch his words. Of course, it’s disappointing that he can’t take a more hardline approach but let’s face it Canada is already paying a high price for Carney’s confrontations with Trump and is largely doing so without any support from their larger allies. He has to pick his fights. (2/2)

@TheresaReason @NMBA It’s easy too talk tough when you don’t have any skin in the game. Spain is not under threat. Canada is already suffering economic war at the hands of the Americans, MAGAts are infecting our political discourse with their insidious & dangerous talking points, and the American President is publicly discussing annexing Canada. Diplomacy is a requirement, not “weakness”.

I personally am willing to support a PM who puts Canada first and calls out wrongs when he sees them even if it means offending Trumps ego.
It's naive to think that these little knee bends will keep us in Trump's good graces, all it does is let him know we will show our belly when he comes at us. It's not going to change what the US does at all. It just looks weak and makes Carney a hypocrite.
Or, just as unappealing, it's just truly how he feels about the rule of law himself which he has shown signs of before when he's tried to override existing protections and deals. He's showing himself to be an autocrat with few morals but capital.
According to his Davos speech he just put his "sign back in the window", he's going along to get along. For a moment the world admired him for his forthrighgness and bravery after that speech. That's all gone, he so obviously folded when it actually counted. Ed sp.
