    Accelerating the transition to homegrown clean energy has become urgent.

    Today, we presented a news set of initiatives to boost clean energy investment, strengthen Europe’s energy independence, and lower energy prices, including:

    🏠 Citizen’s Energy Package - reducing household bills, empowering citizens, and tackling energy poverty.

    💶 Clean Energy Investment Strategy – mobilising private investment for Europe’s clean energy transition.

    @EUCommission
    SMRs do not solve a single issue of nuclear reactors, nor are they cheap, nor does either make energy cheap, nor is it a short term solution.
    The linked article is filled with numbers for this shit that makes me shudder. Use that cash to build large electricity storage entities (batteries, pressurized air, electrolysis, ..) to stabilize our grid across multiple days or weeks or produce H2, not this nuclear pendant to hobby horsery

      @EUCommission I see the impracticals are out in force today. Germany already tried your claim that we can shift to renewables tomorrow and now we burn more coal. Like it or not nuclear has to be a transition energy source.

            Empowering citizens? Nuclear helps only big energy, and citizens money has to clean the mess. You should sustain small local decentralised coops. Shame on von der Leyen, there was no need to kiss the ass of big industry Macron.

              @EUCommission
              Is your energy strategy AI-slop, just like this media content here?

              You promise "clean energy" and "energy independence" - but want to funnel billions into unproven SMRs (exist only on paper, 10+ years to build) while starving true renewables that deploy in 2-3 years.

              Same old nuclear problems: unprofitable, resource-dependent, waste-heavy.

              Real clean energy doesn't need nuclear as a crutch.

                @EUCommission you will take care of the nuclear waste - yes?
                I've heard politicians with radioactive jewlery are considered glowing fighters for Europe.

                And if something explodes, you take the full responsibility. As it's safe, we can assume that any incident with radioactivity is an intentional terrorist attack by the responsible entity, correct?

                  @EUCommission so, about a month ago you were claiming: ”Cheaper energy sources: we are linking electricity prices to wind and solar instead of expensive gas“. [1]

                  Now ”The Commission is adopting […] a Strategy for the development and deployment of SMRs in Europe. If these technologies are to reach the stage of commercialisation in the early 2030s, we must address the financing challenges due to higher technology and deployment risks.“ [2]

                  Can you please brief us how ”financing challenges“ caused by ”higher technology and deployment risks“ are supposed to ”lower energy prices“?

                  (Let alone the question of what technology risks are to be addressed and how mitigating these would translate into €.)

                    @EUCommission before SMR, cover all rooftop and parking slot with solar. Ease hydro, wind, shared batteries usage at local level and finance for real the green transition. Fuck corrupted national governments. Less talk with lobbyists and more listening to the public

                      @EUCommission Yes, outstanding. Now please realize that nuclear is neither clean (toxic waste) nor independent (very problematic sources of uranium).

                        @EUCommission I really appreciate the feedback and the info. Small question: you point the problematic sourcing of uranium and suggest a closed fuel cycle by upcycling nuclear waste. While this might also solve the waste problem, is this approach even remotely commercially viable?
