@hacks4pancakes uhhhh VSCode ik it's made by M$ but I liked the simple interface and how easy it was to use it for teaching people ; copilot sucked the will for me to use it, i'm mostly back to vim now

@hacks4pancakes University.
Seriously, this particular university's relentless promotion of LLMs really wears me down. They also seem to have a deal with Microsoft, where they require every professor to have a slide promoting Copilot while discourage using ChatGPT. Someone probably has a lot of money in their pocket in this process
@lesley @hacks4pancakes I've been in those meetings. (Not recently, but back in the '00s and '10s). There aren't wodges of cash, but there's a lot of very cheap services on the table.

@hacks4pancakes Sleep as Android is a good one, i really wanted to be late for work because a slop machine decided I should get up 3 hours later than usual.

QuickBooks Online.
Intuit found it could only make it suck more by adding an LLM. Oh, and raising the price. -

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but here's an example from Adobe InDesign
Daniel P. Huffman (@pinakographos@mapstodon.space)
Attached: 2 images A warning for Adobe #InDesign users. I recently updated my copy, and after preparing a document, the recipient of that document sent me the alt text that popped up on one of their figures. Apparently, by default, InDesign uses AI to generate (often hilariously wrong) alt text for images.

@Fpccraig DreamHost was recommended to me, so I'll probably check them out next.

@w_b My recollection is I have heard them mentioned only positively, but I have not specifically investigated.

@hacks4pancakes excel, Notepad and close to every browser in existance.
Also Windows in general and a lot of phone OS.@tk @hacks4pancakes Setting aside the complete inanity that you have to deal with this bullshit, I recommend going to Settings/Apps and uninstalling the "Notepad" app. The same old Notepad32.exe is still in your System32 folder, unaffected by the uninstall, and will run as expected -- without the Copilot nonsense.
Or do what I did after a year of Windows 11 -- buy a new Framework laptop, put Ubuntu on it, and stop looking backward. So much less stress!

@w_b @alice @Fpccraig extremely fucking not. Do NOT use Gandi. It has long since been acquired by vulture capital and has become increasingly shitty both in quality and ethics as a direct result of those sales. Prices are going skyrocketing every year with quality and honesty going off a cliff.

@w_b @alice @Fpccraig if you are looking for a non-US company, I can and do recommend INWX.ch (available in English.) I'm not a huge fan of the new site, but their service and support has been top notch. When I was having issues with AXFRs, they didn't hesitate to escalate to engineering, confirmed a documentation problem, and got it fixed quickly.
Netcup is also a good option, though they're more focused on VPS than registrar. However, they have more US exposure potentially.

@w_b @alice @Fpccraig They were stable, until they were sold / got bought and "flipped" by a PE company:
"On 28 February 2019, Gandi CEO Stephan Ramoin announced that private equity firm Montefiore Investment had acquired the company.
In February 2023, Gandi was acquired by Total Webhosting Solutions, forming a new brand, Your.Online. In June, the company announced drastic price increases, including a new monthly fee for mailboxes previously included for free."
