    New study: Most people are not actually worried about trans women in women's bathrooms

    The data shows that most people are not actually complaining about trans women using “women-only spaces.”

    @servelan As I understand it, separate bathrooms for women are there to protect us from attacks by men when we're in a vulnerable situation. The same should apply to trans women in my view. I dont believe we as women are under threat from trans women.

          @servelan

          That is good news, indeed.

          However: Many¹ trans women are worried of either causing cis women worries or being bullied.

          ¹anecdotal evidence

            @mina

            We now have empirical data that this is all a manufactured moral panic, but of course if gencritters do not wish to share spaces with us, we could always give them their own toilets.

            Those would of course become known as TERF Toilets...

              @servelan Listen, what I'm worried is about clean bathrooms. And dirty people don't have a gender, they keep being dirty ones.

                @alexadeswift @mina @servelan I briefly worked in a leisure centre which had gender-neutral changing spaces with family-sized, securely lockable cubicles. The toilets too were gender-neutral - with partitions that went all the way to the ceiling and floor for maximum privacy. So far as I know, no-one ever complained.

                Even gender-exclusive toilets have private cubicles! The manufactured moral panic over which restrooms trans people should use is absurd. Hardly anyone in the real world cares. 🤷🏻‍♂️

                  @alexadeswift @mina @servelan Sadly all the critics is hearing is "We need to push this more!" because the goal is not to make women feel safer, it's to make people angrier so the logical thinking gets switched off. But yes, we all know that here. Fediverse is positively selecting for people that can think longer than the nose 🙂

                    @servelan Yeah I'm not bothered about trans people using whichever bathroom they want to, but I am concerned about bad actors doing it in bad faith.

                      @eq

                      One day this will all be over, and those who pushed for this and amplified the moral panic will know just how much harm they caused.
