@pvonhellermannn after Brexit, this is exactly what you could have expected from the UK. It's the same kind of mechanisms in power: control people through fear (and threats). And with the EU out of the way it may even be easier to do now. @BubblegumYeti

@regendans @BubblegumYeti @pvonhellermannn there are genuine problems cases that I think have ben used to justify this: continuous picketing of women's health advice centres by anti-abortionists and repeated 'protests' by fascist bigotsd outside hotels housing asylum seekers.
But in terms of a general and entirely at the discretion of the police ban these rank there with use of "think of the children" arguments for the equally heinous Draconian 'online safety' measures and the lumping together of anti- Palestine Action terrorism legislation with a couple of neonazi organisations that were a genuine case. -

@pvonhellermannn Deep down they’ve had a draconian view on watching/controlling citizens since at least Blair. Not sure why but it’s quite the blind spot for them.

That piece of legislation may also be aimed at other protests (side eye at the fuel protests in Ireland at the moment) and frankly anything else they don’t like. Awful.

Around the time that statue was pushed in the dock in Bristol as part of the Black Lives Matter protest hit the UK. That's when the Tories really went in on stripping away the right to protest. It culminated in loosely worded legislation in a new act in 2022.

Since then they, for example, confiscated amplification equipment of vocal anti brexit campaigner Steve Bray. Sentenced protesters to 5 years for sitting in a *road. And much more.

@pvonhellermannn Honestly, it looks pretty worrying and like a step in the wrong direction , but I’d still wait to see how it’s actually enforced in practice, because sometimes laws sound much harsher on paper than they end up being in real life.

Labour are no longer the party of democratic socialists. The rot startest with Blair. The final death was when Corbyn looked like winning. So he was smeared to 'death' and all democratic socialist were hounded out or left.
Some went to Green others to Your Party. The latter seem to be finished so hopefully the Green will pick up more. Starmer is the result about to be wiped out in local election -
