Una intensa tempesta di sabbia ha investito la Striscia di Gaza, avvolgendo completamente il territorio in una densa nube di polvere color argilla. Le immagini mostrano un paesaggio quasi monocromatico: cielo, edifici e strade appaiono immersi in una luce arancione, mentre il vento solleva grandi quantità di sabbia. Il fenomeno ha ridotto la visibilità in diverse zone inasprendo le condizioni già drammatiche in cui vivono gli sfollati negli accampamenti della zona.

A lanciare l’allarme sono stati anche gli operatori di Emergency: “Erano anni che una tempesta così forte non si abbatteva sul Paese – raccontano – Anche la nostra clinica di assistenza primaria è stata colpita, con una parte del tendone della sala d’attesa divelto e sabbia che è entrata all’interno della struttura”. Questo, specificano, “è l’ennesimo colpo a una popolazione già stremata, costretta a vivere in tende costruite con mezzi di fortuna, con estrema difficoltà nell’accesso ai servizi igienici e senza poter accedere ai beni di prima necessità”.

A severe sandstorm struck the Gaza Strip, completely enveloping the territory in a dense, clay-colored dust cloud. Images show a nearly monochromatic landscape: sky, buildings, and streets appear submerged in an orange light, while the wind lifts huge amounts of sand. The phenomenon has reduced visibility in several areas, exacerbating the already dramatic conditions in which displaced persons live in the area’s camps.

The Emergency operators also sounded the alarm: “It had been years since such a strong storm had fallen on the country – they say – Even our primary healthcare clinic was hit, with part of the waiting tent torn down and sand entering the structure.” This, they specify, “is yet another blow to a weary population, forced to live in tents constructed with makeshift means, with extreme difficulty accessing sanitation services and without being able to access essential goods.”
