    Apple is preparing to fold the iPhone — whether or not anyone asked for it. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device will open into an iPad mini–sized screen and pair luxe hardware with a sleeker design meant to make foldables feel stylish.
    If it lands, it could amount to Apple’s most significant iPhone redesign in years — but is that enough to make you part with a fresh $2K (approx £1500)?

    @kibcol1049

    I saw someone with a well used folding smartphone. The 'fold' on that thing was a manky-arsed mess of (presumably) crunched glass in plastic.

      @kibcol1049
      If it doesn’t fit in the same pocket, I have no interest.

          @kibcol1049 And yet it is not expected to support iPad apps even with a similar form factor. It makes the divide between iOS and iPadOS that much more arbitrary that I wonder if they will one day reconcile.

            @kibcol1049 they try to find justification to increase price and thus margin.

              @peteriskrisjanis I've never owned an i-phone. A friend loves them but has to keep buying a new one every year as the built in obsoletion kicks in. Despite the fact that he only uses the main features which are now available for a quarter of the price in android phones. Still -he's happy, poorer but happy! 🤭

                    @kibcol1049 oh yeah I kinda understand cult like "I like it to use it" following of it. Also even so, for most time, food and shelter will cost you more per year.
                    No one can deny that for long time as well owning iPhone was seen as signalling ot wealth and prosperity in dating and business circles. This is how Apple earned those billions in China.
                    One thing I care is that I don't think Apple continues iPhone Mini? That is pretty cool device. Small mobile phones for the win.

                      @kibcol1049 Hard no. I’ve got an iPad and an iPad Pro and my phone. It would be annoyingly bulky for very little gain.

                        @peteriskrisjanis The trouble with small phones, for me at least, (when you get older you'll know), is that the text is too small to easily read. Yes spectacles help, but that means swapping reading specs for distance specs or using bi-focal or similar which aren't suitable for all. So enjoy small things while you can! 🤭

                                        100%. It is the inevitable, intended, outcome.

                                          @kibcol1049 @peteriskrisjanis I liked the art features that used to be front and center Apple. Now they’re available everywhere.

                                          @Pineywoozle @peteriskrisjanis Exactly Piney, I don't use half the features on my cheap android phone. I played with the camera when I first got it, but now I just use the basic mode all the time. The built in calculator does things I've never heard of. Pretty much the same for all the apps. If I was a professional photographer or mathematician it would be different. 🤭
